President Buhari Set To Scrap, Merge Ministries.
Reports according to Guardian Newspaper has it
that the newly inaugurated Nigeria President,
President Muhammadu Buhari, might be planning
to scrap 12 out of the 31 existing Federal ministries
to retain only 19.
According to the report, the effort is to reduce the
country's astronomical cost of governance. The
President claims for him to deliver all the promises
he made during his campaign, he needs to scrap
some ministries and merge some. He claims the
running cost for some of the existing ministries is
financial consuming.
Below is the list of ministries that might be merged,
Ministry of Interior (to include Police Affairs)
Ministry of Transportation (to include Works,
Aviation, Railways, Waterways/Transport
Ministry Agriculture & Water Resources, etc.
Ministry of Information, Youth Development &
Culture
Ministry of Trade, Investment & Tourism, etc.
Some of the ministries which might be affected by
the decision includes:
The Niger Delta Ministry. ( To be replaced with the
Ministry for Regional Development)
The ministries of Women Affairs and Special Duties
according to the report might also be scrapped.
