POLICE RESCUE SOUTH-EAST BOUND PASSENGERS FROM BUS HIJACKED BY ROBBERS

The hoodlums are said to have disguised as
passengers, boarded the bus from Lagos before
hijacking it at gunpoint at Umunede on the Benin-
Asaba Expressway.
About 80 passengers on the way to the south-east in a
luxury bus were rescued by men of the Dragon Patrol
Team of the Delta State Police Command after a gang of
five armed robbers hijacked the bus on their way to
celebrate the yuletide with their families.
According to a police statement issued by the state Police
Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Celestina Kalu, the
hoodlums disguised as passengers, boarded the bus from
Lagos before hijacking it at gunpoint at Umunede on the
Benin-Asaba Expressway.
She further stated that on sighting the police, the robbers
jumped down from the bus and escaped into the bush.
"Our men sighted the bus on Ibusa/Ogwashi-Uku Road entering into a
lonely track road. The team suspected the movement and traced the
vehicle. The hoodlums sighted the police and jumped down from the
bus and escaped into the bush.
The driver of the vehicle and the passengers were rescued and taken to
Ibusa Police Station where they revealed that five armed men
unknowingly boarded the bus as passengers from Lagos.
On getting to Umunede, a neighbouring town to Agbor in Delta State,
they took over the bus and started robbing the passengers. The
interception of the police aborted their other intended heinous act."
