Fire Destroys Ascon filling station, Lekki, alongside 10 vehicles

Property estimated at millions of naira has been lost
after fire gutted a filling station belonging to the
Ascon Oil Company on the Lekki Phase 1 area of
Lagos State.
We gathered that about 10 cars and two
motorcycles, which were in the station to refuel, were
consumed in the inferno.
Our correspondent learnt that officials of the Lagos
State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service and Chevron
responded to a distress call from the management of
the company.
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as
Muyiwa, said the fire began around 2pm.
Three persons reportedly sustained injuries while
attempting to put out the fire.
He said, "There were two fuel tankers in the station,
and the cars close to them were burnt. The fire
started from one of the tankers. My car was also in
the station. People helped me to push it out of the
station. The fire was serious."
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire Service,
Amodu Shakiru, said the agency had expended five
water trucks on the inferno.
He said the fire started while the station was
offloading a tanker laden with 33,000 litres of PMS.
"They were offloading the fuel from a tanker when
the incident happened. When we received the
information, we had to deploy our men from Alausa,
Onikan and Eti-Osa in the area to combat the fire. We
have expended five trucks so far, each carrying
10,000 litres of water. No casualty has been recorded
and the situation is under control," he added.
The management of Ascon Oil Company, via its
Twitter handle, @ascon_oil, said the fire had been put
off.
It said, "Ascon Oil Lekki fire contained! No life lost.
Building and reservoir (are) intact. Fire contained
promptly."
