Mr George Maduabuchi, a middle-aged palm tree harvester, who hails from Owerrinta, a town in the Isiala-Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State is currently being detained by the Police force for allegedly selling his 1 year and 2 months old son for N300,000

Mr George, a father of four reportedly conspired with another suspect, Mr Obinna Erondu, to execute the transaction.

Mr. Joshak Habila, the Commissioner of Police, who had paraded the suspect along with some other Crime suspects said on Thursday:

"Luck ran out on Maduabuchi when the wife alerted the police on his questionable role when the baby fell ill and he took him out and did not return with him."

According to a source, George claimed that he did not sell his son but only took him to an herbalist when he fell ill.

He said,

"The herbalist gave me money and told me that he could not heal the baby. I therefore left the baby in the herbalist's home."

Unfortunately for him, his wife, Eberechi opposed his statement and claimed that, of a truth, George took their baby to the Herbalist when he had a consistent cough, but when he returned, he only returned with bulks of money and not with the baby.

She said,

"When I demanded explanations on the whereabouts of our son, he could not offer any convincing answer."

Pregnant Eberechi raised an alarm which attracted the attention of the neighbourhood, who then helped in the arrest of the husband.

After the neighbours informed the Police. They arrested Mr George who later led them to the house of the Herbalist at Owerrinta where the 14months old baby boy was recovered.
