HEALTH: How to get rid of a double chin

Fat anywhere else on the body can be easily concealed by your clothes, but there is no escaping a double chin. A double chin usually occurs due to muscle sagging, which is caused by obesity, genetics and ageing. Here are some ways to get rid of your double chin at home.

•Chewing gum can tighten your jaw muscles. It also activates the digestive system and promotes healthy teeth and gums. However, avoid chewing gum for more than 10 minutes a day.

•A glycerin mask can firm up the skin. Mix one tablespoon of glycerin, half a tablespoon of epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) and several drops of peppermint oil, and apply it on your face, neck and chin. Let it be for 10 minutes and then rinse it off with cool water. Do this thrice a week.

•Egg whites have a similar effect as glycerin, as they help keep skin firm. Simply mix egg whites with a tablespoon of milk, lemon juice, honey and a few drops of essential oil, and apply the mask on your face and neck. Let it be for five minutes and then rinse it off with cold water. Repeat thrice a week.

•Consume any kind of melon to melt your double chin, as the high water content helps flush out toxins, promote weight loss, and make you feel fuller. You can apply crushed melon to your face and chin and let it dry. Wash off with cool water. Repeat twice a week.

•Chin exercises also help get rid of a double chin. The easiest exercise is to open your mouth as wide as you can, and stick your tongue out as far as it can go. Hold for 10 counts and repeat 10 times. This will result in immediate tightening of the chin muscles.
