OAU Accounting Students Exchange Blows Over Financial Report

Students of the Accounting Department, Obafemi
Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, engaged a
brawl at their parliamentary sitting held to assess
the state of the association and discuss proceeds of
their annual summit.
It was gathered that crisis began to rock the
Accounting Students Representative Council, OAU
chapter, since the organisation of a conference.
The programme, our correspondent gathered,
generated an unspecified huge sums of money to
the students association.
The crisis reached its peak when some the
parliamentarians felt dissatisfied with the manner of
presentation of their President, Vincent Adebola,
who was summoned to appear before the council.
While some of the parliamentarians complained of
his dressing, others accused him of being
unconstitutional in his address.
This, according to eyewitnesses, got the President
annoyed, forcing him to walk out on the
parliamentarians.
"We held a submit and many companies sponsored
the programmes. The issue is all about the financial
status of the association," one of the students said.
When contacted, the president said, "The issue is
that we were there to present the financial report of
our summit but in the process of giving that report,
there were lots of interception from the members of
the ASRC. It was just a minor issue and we were able
to resolve it and everything has been settled. There
was nothing like fighting."
In a meeting held on Friday, the association's
Director of Studies and and General Secretary,
Tunde Animashaun and Oladotun Oladiti
respectively, were suspended.
Their suspension, however, led to a rowdy session
in the house as other students faulted the actions of
the parliamentarians.
In the fracas, a campus journalist, identified as
Afeez Lasisi, was attacked.
