Court jails 2 men for stealing church billboard.
A Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates' Court, Abuja, on
Wednesday sentenced two men, Julius Morrison and
Abdurahman Sale, to one month imprisonment
each, for stealing a church billboard, valued at
N160,000. Morrison, 29, and Sale, 23, both residents
of Mabushi, Abuja, were arraigned on a two-count
charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The magistrate, Mr Aminu Eri, convicted Morrison
and Sale after they pleaded guilty to the charges
preferred against them.
Eri, however, gave them an option to pay a fine of
N100, and warned them to `desist from such act, for
the sentence may not be lighter next time.' Earlier,
the prosecutor, Cpl. Yusuf Sani, informed the court
that on Feb. 13 at 7a.m., one David Njoku of the
Father's Church, Jahi, Abuja, reported the matter at
the Mabushi Police Station.
He said that the two accused persons went to the
church and stole a billboard valued at N160, 000 but
were caught. Sani said that the offences committed
contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 288 of
the Penal Code Law
