Boko Haram Launches Attack On Cameroon Military Base
Militants from the Nigerian armed
Islamist sect Boko Haram have launched
an attack on a military base in the
northwest Cameroonian city of Kolofata,
police say.
The raid happened early Monday, about a
week after Boko Haram leader, Abubakar
Shekau, threatened attacks on Cameroon
after the country's military launched
frequent assaults against the insurgents.
A Cameroon-based journalist, Bisong Eta,
who tweeted about the attack, said it was
prevented by the Cameroonian military and
that peace had returned.
Boko Haram has leaded several invasions in
Kolofata in the past, which was regularly
resisted by the army.
The terrorists had in July last year kidnapped
the wife of the country's Vice Prime Minister,
and a mayor in the region, Seini Boukar
Lamine.
It was said the country's officials entered into
mediation talks with the sect leading to the
release of those kidnapped.
Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau in his
latest video cautioned President of
Cameroon, Paul Biya, to suspend his
country's attack on the group or face
payback.
