POLICE AVERT BOMB IN MAIDUGURI MOSQUE

The police in Borno State have said they intercepted a bomb  planted at the exit gate of the Central Mosque at the Tashan Kano motor park in Maiduguri, DailyTrust reports.

Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Gideon Jibrin, who disclosed this in a statement, said the bomb was uncovered on Friday during the Juma'at prayer.
"On December 5 at about 1330hrs, the attention of State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) operatives of the command and civilian JTF men on duty at the Kano Motor Park, Maiduguri, was drawn to a bunch of suspected Improvised Explosive Devices concealed in a receptacle and planted near the exit gate of the Juma'at mosque at the motor park," he said.
According to him, the bomb was neutralised by the bomb disposal unit drafted to the scene, thereby preventing any casualty.
"Swiftly reacting to the bomb scare, the bomb disposal unit was promptly drafted to the scene where they found the IEDs ostensibly targeted at unsuspecting worshipers who were already in prayers," Jibrin said.
He urged the general public to continue to be extra vigilant and alert the police and other security agencies to the activities of suspected persons, vehicles and objects for prompt action.
