LAGOS: Man sells friends car worth N1.2M for N180,000 for Debt Settlement.

Mr. Johnson Jamiu has been arrested by the police and charged before a court sitting in Ejigbo for allegedly selling his friend's car to pay his debt in Lagos. Mr Jamiu allegedly sold a Daewoo Saloon car belonging to Nnaji Goodluck for N180,000 because his debtor was on his neck.

The value of the car in question according to police source is N1.2m. Jamiu who had access to the car, collected the car key & sold it before coming back to inform the owner. Residents of the area said that Jamiu was indebted to some people who had been disturbing him on daily basis.

When the stress became too much he decided to clear his debt by selling his friend's car without informing the owner. He later told Goodluck that he had sold his only car to enable him pay his debts so that he would be free.

He explained that he did not tell him because he knew he would not agree neither will he lend him money to pay the debt.
The matter was reported at Idimu police division and Jamiu was arrested and taken to the station. He admitted before the police that he sold the car.

The police charged him to court with Criminal conversion and stealing under the Criminal Code.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mr P. E. Nwaka granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail condition. The case was adjourned till 12 November 2014. When he was being taken to prison, he pleaded with the complainant, Nnaji Goodluck to facilitate his release from custody.
