WHO Assistant Director General, Bruce Aylward stated on Wednesday, October 29, that the spread of the disease may be slowing down after a reduction in the number of burials and a plateau in laboratory-confirmed cases was noticed, Reuters reports.

He said:

"Do we feel confident that the response is now getting an upper hand on the virus? Yes, we are seeing slowing rate of new cases, very definitely."

Aylward also added that the total number of cases had risen to 13,703 and the current death toll when collated on Wednesday was likely to be above 5000.

Liberia has suffered the worst of the disease accounting for almost 2000 of the total casualty figure.
