PDP Governors meets today
As part of the strategy to adopt and ratify the
guidelines for various primary elections of
their party, the governors elected on the
platform of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) would tomorrow meet to harmonise
their positions preparatory to the meeting of
the National Executive Committee (NEC) slated
for Thursday.
Already, the meeting of the Board of Trustees
(BoT) is scheduled for today while the National
Caucus of PDP would meet tomorrow.
A source said the PDP governors were working
to ensure that the presidential convention of
the party slated for November would be made
an affirmation convention, even though the
Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, is said
to be bent on contesting against President
Goodluck Jonathan at the convention.
A statement by the Chairman of the PDP
Governors' Forum and Governor of Akwa Ibom
State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, said the
meeting would hold at the Akwa Ibom State
Governor's Lodge in Asokoro by 4p.m.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not
released to the public, sources said the
upcoming PDP primaries and the national
convention of the party among other crucial
issues would feature in their discussion.
In a related development, the PDP Governors'
Forum has congratulated the governor of
Katsina State, the state chapter of the party
and the entire people of the state on the
recent peaceful conduct of local government
area elections in the state.
A statement by Akpabio noted that it was
remarkable that PDP under the leadership of
the state Governor, Ibrahim Shema, won in all
the 34 local government areas and the 361
wards in the state.
According to the chairman of PDP Governors'
Forum, "This victory further confirm the
confidence the good people of the state have
in our great party, which they have kept faith
with since the advent of the present
democratic dispensation in 1999.
"It is also noteworthy that as the party with a
real national transformation agenda under the
leadership of our dear President Jonathan, the
PDP administration led by the game changer
and National Chairman of the party, Alhaji
Adamu Mu'azu, has also kept faith with the
good people of Katsina State and indeed other
Nigerians who have witnessed quantum leap in
democratic dividends," Akpabio said.
He added that the victory of PDP in Katsina
State was a foretaste of many more victories
for the party in the years ahead, and therefore
urged Nigerians to keep supporting the party.
In another statement signed by the Secretary
of the PDP BoT, Senator Walid Jubrin, he said
the BoT meeting would take place at the
Presidential Villa Abuja at 7p.m. today.
Also, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP,
Olisa Metuh, said the National Executive
Committee (NEC) meeting would take place on
Thursday at 12 noon at the national secretariat
of the party.
